Torgill is a school of Carpentry, Hospitality and Mechanics on Ambae (formerly known as Aoba), an island in the Vanuatu group. 10,500 people live on the 154 sq miles of Ambae.
Torgill offers two year courses to students from all islands in the archipelago. Graduate students will have received a basic grounding in the theory of these disciplines and will have undergone practical training.
The institute is supported by the Church of Melanesia and is a registered and accredited body within the Vanuatu education system.
Situated on the Lolowai - Saratamata road in East Ambae, Torgill enjoys the cooling influence of the South East Trade Winds that blow across the sea from Maewo, it's nearest island neighbour.
